Global energy markets remain in flux.

Given continued expectations for commodity price volatility, producers, pipeline operators and refiners remain focused on improved operating efficiency, disciplined capital allocation and positive free cash generation.

Given the relative underperformance of the energy sector versus the broader market during the past five years, management teams across the supply chain have increasingly engaged in shareholder-friendly actions designed to attract both sector-specific and generalist fund flows into the sector.  These actions, which include the introduction of share repurchase programs, higher dividend payouts and increased disclosure around key ESG metrics, have realized some degree of success.  However, given the capital-intensive nature of the sector, we see the potential for increased consolidation, as better capitalized market participants with higher quality, more diversified income streams seek to opportunistically acquire undervalued competitors.

In a sector where constant change is the only certainty, we help our clients build compelling narratives that educate and inform the audiences that matter. We are well acquainted with the institutional investors and sell-side analysts covering the space, along with the myriad legislative, regulatory and competitive factors that have the potential to impact valuation.
